PhD students in Economics

The School of Economics at Linnaeus University conducts research and education in business administration, economics, statistics, law, and tourism. Start date: 1 September 2023.

Scope of employment: The Higher Education Ordinance stipulates that a person employed as a doctoral student shall devote himself/herself primarily to his/her own education. However, an employee may work to a limited extent on teaching, research and administration. Such work, prior to the award of the PhD, may not exceed 20% of full-time working time.

Doctoral students in economics

The doctoral training and dissertation work in economics is closely linked to the theme "Equality of Opportunity and Big Data Analysis". High-quality research with both national and international impact is carried out, particularly in the fields of labor economics, public economics, microeconomics and economic history, and touches on topics such as intergenerational mobility, education, health, the environment, policy evaluation, integration and discrimination. The course programme is run through a national collaboration with a number of other universities. The programme includes courses in mathematics, microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. We offer supervision of a high international standard and a stimulating and intellectual working environment. The programme prepares students for work in academia, skilled jobs in government departments and agencies, international organizations and the private sector. Eligibility requirements

Basic eligibility is open to those who

- Have completed a degree at the advanced level in economics.

- Completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits at advanced level, or acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in or outside Sweden.

Special qualifications are awarded to those who

- has at least 90 higher education credits in economics or equivalent knowledge acquired in some other way within or outside the country

- has a demonstrated good knowledge of English.

 

Basis of assessment

Selection is made on the basis of the applicant's ability to assimilate the doctoral programme. The assessment takes into account the scientific ability documented in scientific work and course grades. The assessment also includes the ability to collaborate and to express oneself in oral and written English.

Terms and conditions of employment

Employment as a doctoral student is limited in time according to HF chapter 5 §7. However, the total period of employment may not exceed the equivalent of full-time doctoral education over four years.
