Post-doc position (f/m/d) in Quantitative Corpus Linguistics

Department of Romance Studies | DCH (Data Center for the Humanities)

The University of Cologne is one of the largest and most research-intensive universities in Germany, offering a wide range of subjects. With its six faculties and its interfaculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines and internationally outstanding profile areas, supported by the administration with its services.

The Department of Romance Studies is integrated into a wide range of international research contexts and collaborations (including the Collaborative Research Centre 1252 „Prominence in Language“, research groups on diachronic linguistics and discourse linguistics). The chair (Prof. Becker) is concerned with the evolution of Romance languages from a comparative perspective and works with methods of corpus linguistics.

 

01 Your Task

- Creation, maintenance and administration of digital corpora for Romance languages

- Expertise and assistance in the field of quantitative methods in the domain of research and teaching (e.g. Master of Linguistics)

- Acquisition of third-party funding in connection with corpus-based research projects

- Teaching to the extent of 4 SWS during the qualification phase

- Qualification of collaborators/colleagues in the field of annotation and quantitative methods

 

02 Your Profile

- Studies (BA, MA) in the field of linguistics (linguistics, Romance studies, computational linguistics)

- Pertinent doctoral qualification

- Solid knowledge and experience in the application of quantitative and statistical methods

- Good proficiency in the creation of annotated corpora (POS annotation and query tools) and good knowledge concerning the necessary technical requirements (web server, etc.)

- Profound knowledge of at least one Romance language

The position is to be filled on a full-time basis at the earliest possible date. It is initially limited for a qualification phase of up to three years. A subsequent permanent appointment is envisaged. In justified individual cases, the qualification phase can be reduced. Provided that the relevant requirements of the Collective Agreement of the States (TVL) and personal requirements are met, remuneration is based on pay group 13 of the TV-L pay scale for the German public sector.
